India Defence News – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has promised a “befitting reply” to those behind the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, underscoring India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism. Speaking at a memorial lecture honoring Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh in New Delhi, Singh condemned the attack as a “cowardly act” and assured that the government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will take all necessary measures to address such threats.
“India, a vast and ancient civilization, will not be intimidated by such terror activities. Every Indian stands united, and those responsible, including their conspirators, will face an appropriate response,” Singh declared.
He expressed condolences to the victims’ families, calling the attack an “inhuman act” targeting innocent citizens based on religion.
Singh also cautioned nations supporting cross-border terrorism, stating, “History shows that nations perish not from external enemies but from their own misdeeds. I hope our neighbors heed these lessons.”
The minister paid tribute to Arjan Singh, crediting his visionary leadership for transforming the Indian Air Force (IAF) into one of the world’s strongest. He outlined the government’s commitment to equipping the IAF to dominate regionally and achieve defence sovereignty through self-reliance, or Aatmanirbharta.
Highlighting indigenous achievements like the Tejas fighter jet, Dhruv helicopter, and BrahMos missile, Singh emphasized that reliance on imports undermines national security.
The government is prioritizing aero-engine development through co-production models with full intellectual property rights, alongside advancing fifth-generation fighter aircraft and the LCA Mark-2.
Singh noted significant progress in air defence systems like Astra Mark-2, Pralay, and SMART missiles, many of which are in advanced production stages.
He also praised the growing role of private sectors, startups, and MSMEs in driving defence innovation, particularly in high-tech warfare.
Addressing global shifts, Singh highlighted the strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific region and the challenges posed by emerging technologies such as AI, hypersonic weapons, and quantum computing.
He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to tackle these complexities and ensure a robust, technology-driven military.
The event was attended by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, and senior civil and military officials, alongside serving and retired IAF personnel.
