India Defence News – On April 25, 2025, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 28 innocent civilians by terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, describing it as a grave violation of human rights.
The victims, targeted based on their faith while on holiday, were unarmed and unsuspecting, in an attack that the NHRC says has “shaken the conscience of every right-thinking human being.”
Expressing deep distress, the NHRC emphasized that terrorism remains a significant global threat to human rights, undermining democratic values, communal harmony, and fundamental rights such as life, liberty, and equality.
The Commission called for decisive action against those directly or indirectly involved in terrorism, stressing the need to hold perpetrators accountable to prevent further erosion of democratic spaces and societal harmony.
The NHRC urged the State to take all necessary measures to ensure justice, including fixing accountability, prosecuting the culprits, and providing comprehensive support to the victims’ families.
This incident underscores the urgent need to combat terrorism and protect human rights, the Commission noted.
